Split Numbers and Units

Paste one value per line, like 10ft, 100 pairs or $12.50/kg. You get the number and the unit in separate columns, ready to paste back into Excel or Google Sheets. Nothing leaves your browser.

Paste values on the left. The split appears here as you type.

How to use

  1. Paste your column of values into the box on the left, one value per line.
  2. Choose your Round numbers to and Number format options, and tick Include header row or Include original column if needed.
  3. Click Copy for Excel / Sheets to paste the split result back, or use Copy as CSV or Download CSV for a file.

How each value is split

The first number on each line becomes the number. Anything before it (like a currency sign) goes to Prefix, and anything after it goes to Unit.

You paste Prefix Number Unit
10ft 10 ft
100 pairs 100 pairs
$12.50/kg $ 12.50 /kg
1,234.5 m2 1234.5 m2
28.999999 (round to 0) 29

Questions

How do I split “10ft” into 10 and ft in Excel?

Paste the column into the box above, click Copy for Excel / Sheets, then paste into the first cell of an empty area. The number lands in one column and the unit in the next, as real numbers you can calculate with. Inside Excel itself you would need a formula such as =VALUE(REGEXEXTRACT(A1,"[0-9.]+") in Microsoft 365, or a long LEFT/MID/FIND formula in older versions.

How do I separate numbers from units in Google Sheets?

Use the tool above and paste the result back, or use =REGEXEXTRACT(A1,"[0-9.]+") for the number and =REGEXREPLACE(A1,"^[^a-zA-Z]*","") for the unit. The tool handles thousands separators, prefixes and rounding in one pass.

What happens to “$12.50/kg” and “1,234.5 m2”?

“$12.50/kg” becomes Prefix $, Number 12.50, Unit /kg. The currency sign is kept separate on purpose because a price and a unit are two different things. “1,234.5 m2” becomes 1234.5 and m2; the comma is read as a thousands separator unless you switch the number format.

Can I round numbers when splitting a column?

Yes. Choose 0 to 4 decimals under Round numbers to. This also cleans floating-point leftovers: 28.999999 rounded to 0 decimals becomes 29, which fixes lookups that fail because a value is not exactly 29.

How do I paste the result back into Excel or Sheets without breaking columns?

Click Copy for Excel / Sheets. It copies tab-separated text, which both programs split into columns automatically when you paste into a single cell. Use Copy as CSV or Download CSV if you want a file instead.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The splitting runs in your browser. Your text is never sent to a server.
